Jim Moncus (1939-2021) was known to be an innovator, a trailblazer and a loyal philanthropist.
He was passionate about giving back to the community he called home for over 50 years. According to Jim, if you have been blessed with success, sharing with others is a necessity. The healthcare ministry at Our Lady of Lourdes will forever be changed by his abundant kindness.
When the opportunity arose to support an expansion project for a cancer program poised to serve generations of families in Acadiana, Jim Moncus was the first to step up and pledge to make it a reality. The concept was to design a cancer center offering physician expertise and innovative treatment options without traveling far away from home. It would be a beacon of hope to many and a saving grace to others. The Our Lady of Lourdes JD Moncus Cancer Center was completed in late 2020.
Jim first became interested in the work of our health care ministry with the opening of the new hospital on Ambassador Caffery. Since 2011, the Moncus Family has gifted resources to Lourdes Foundation to care for those most in need at St. Bernadette Clinic and to our program at Northside High School Health Center. He later invested in the cancer center expanding support services for outpatients and bringing new oncology / hematology specialists to our area. Most recently, Jim embraced the vision to provide emergency access and additional medical expansion on the I-10 corridor and helped to bring Moncus Health Plaza to Scott, Louisiana.
We humbly offer our gratitude and honor a man who has impacted so many by his generous spirit.
