Enrique Andrade Rondon, MD, internal medicine physician with Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group, has been part of our ministry since September 2021. Dr. Andrade shared his thoughts on being a doctor.
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in medicine/healthcare? Why did you choose your specialty?
I decided to enter a career in medicine and choose internal medicine as my specialty due to my passion for science and understanding the root of medical conditions and integrating all systems and organs to treat patients in a comprehensive way. As an internal medicine physician, you become that first contact for a patient and start connecting symptoms and signs to decide the best course of action to help and relief a patient’s illness.
2. Have there been any challenges you’ve faced and overcome in your career journey? Who has influenced you most in your career?
Leaving Venezuela and starting over in a foreign country was challenging, however the academic opportunities and the experience of working with excellent mentors and colleagues have made every effort worth it.
3. What do you like most about being a doctor?
As a doctor I have the opportunity of being actively involved in the community and reaching people in need while providing a service that I enjoy.
4. If you weren’t a doctor, what would you do?
I grew up in a family of ranchers which is something I learned and still enjoy. Although I was always clear about medicine being my true calling, I would have loved to stay on the ranch. Perhaps it is something I can still do in the future.
5. How do you ensure your patients feel heard during their visit?
I make an effort to provide enough time for patients to express and talk about their symptoms and prioritize concerns based on importance without underestimating simple complaints and making proper follow-up plans.
6. Why did you choose Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group for your practice?
Since my first contact with the physician group at a job fair in Shreveport, I knew this was a great group to be a part of. , I have been treated with respect and professionalism, and I am glad to be part of their mission of helping the community.
7. What is something that people may be surprised to know about you? Is there anything else you would want to share in a profile about you and your career?
I have a passion for music and singing, I have practiced and played the guitar since childhood along with other string instruments. I also enjoy biking and playing racquetball.
