Gynecologic Oncology
Why did you choose your specialty?
I love taking care of women, I love surgery and I love being able to offer treatments in a constantly evolving field such as oncology. I also liked the palliative care aspect of my job. This allowed me to combine all my interests.
What do you like most about being a doctor?
I love taking care of patients. Sometimes I meet people at their darkest points, a cancer diagnosis, and I get to walk them through the steps of surgery or treatment. Sometimes I help people consider their life’s end or the fact that their life may not look like what they thought it would. Helping patients find their way through a cancer diagnosis helps me see the beauty in our daily lives and keep things in perspective. And on the other hand, some days I get to tell people that the diagnosis is not cancer and experience the joy that follows that.
If you weren’t a doctor, what would you do?
If I had not pursued medicine, I probably would have gone to law school. If I did not practice medicine now, I would be a great stay-at-home mom. I would plant flowers, berries and vegetables and raise chickens.
What is something that people may be surprised to know about you?
I have three kids, one dog, one cat and nine chickens!
Why did you choose St. Dominic’s?
I’ve been a member of the physician group for almost six years. FMOLHS and St Dominic’s gave me the opportunity to work with my mentor, Dr. Seago, as well as the ability to have clinical trials and access to the newest surgical equipment. In addition, the residency program rotates with us, so I have the opportunity to teach as well. Working here allows me to be close to home and take care of patients who are friends and family, those whom I grew up with and raise my family with now.
