Charlene Martin’s connection to Our Lady of Lourdes Health started long before she became an employee.

As a child, Charlene was often hospitalized, and the exceptional care she received left a lasting impact.

“I remember telling my mom that someday I would like to work at Our Lady of Lourdes,” she reflects. This early experience shaped her career choice, leading her to join Our Lady of Lourdes 45 years ago, with a strong desire to give back to the community that had supported her.

A Memorable Moment of Kindness

Charlene’s dedication to helping others extends beyond her daily duties as a supervisor in the sterile processing department. One memory stands out as a testament to her kindness and selflessness.

After returning items to a nearby hospital, she encountered an elderly couple who had mistakenly arrived at the wrong facility. “They really wanted to get here but didn’t know how to drive,” she recalls.

Without hesitation, Charlene drove them to Our Lady of Lourdes in their own car. That simple act of kindness blossomed into a lasting friendship, and she still visits them today.

A Family of Colleagues

What sets Our Lady of Lourdes apart for Charlene is the deep sense of family among her colleagues.

“I love the people I work with; we are truly one big happy family,” she says. This close-knit bond is more than just camaraderie — it’s rooted in faith and shared values. Charlene often leads the rosary in her department and even blesses the Sterile Processing team every six months.

“The presence of Jesus can be felt the minute one walks through the doors,” she says, describing the profound sense of purpose that guides her work.

Guided by Mentors

Throughout her career, Charlene has had many mentors, but one stands out: Kevin Myers. As a leader, he encouraged her to believe in herself and her abilities.

“He taught me that if I made up my mind to do something, it could be done,” she says. Kevin’s mentorship empowered Charlene to step into leadership.

A Life Grounded in Faith

Charlene’s faith is central to everything she does, both at work and in her personal life.

“I am a true believer in God and the power of prayer,” she says. This belief has guided her through challenges and successes, and she instills the same values in her children. “If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it,” she says, a mantra she lives by.

Proud to Be Part of the Lourdes Family

Looking back on her career, Charlene is filled with gratitude.

“I am always proud to let it be known that I am an employee of Our Lady of Lourdes,” she says. Her dedication to the hospital, her colleagues and the patients they serve is unwavering.

“It’s been an honor and a pleasure to still be here,” she adds, reflecting on 45 years of service, love and faith.
