When Barbara Love began her career with St. Francis Health in 1980, she had no idea it would become a lifelong calling. What started as a secretarial position in the Social Services Department grew into a 45-year career rooted in service, compassion and faith.
“I started as a secretary in social services,” Barbara recalls. “After two years, I transitioned to a posting clerk in surgery. In 1984, I began my work in the respiratory care department, where I remain to this day.”
A Ministry That Feels Like Home
Raised Catholic, Barbara was drawn to St. Francis’ mission from the start.
“I was familiar with the Catholic ministry,” she says. “I wanted to serve the community with the healing ministry. Sister Anne Marie Twohig gave me my first job at St. Francis.”
A Career of Change and Commitment
Over her four decades at St. Francis, Barbara has witnessed many milestones — from hospital expansions to system growth.
“During my time here, I’ve seen a new addition to the hospital in the 80s and the purchase of North Monroe Hospital. Combining the two respiratory care teams was an incredible experience.”
Today, Barbara continues her work in the respiratory care department’s pulmonary function lab, where she remains deeply connected to the mission of saving lives as a certified respiratory therapist.
“The St. Francis team’s main focus is saving lives,” she says simply. “I love taking care of my patients.”
Guided by Great Mentorship
Barbara credits her success and longevity in large part to her mentor, Mike Mills, RRT.
“Mike is a great teacher,” she shares. “As a remarkable therapist, he has patience, kindness and knowledge that make you want to do your job to the greatest extent possible.”
After 45 years of faithful service, Barbara’s dedication to her patients and her ministry continues to breathe life into the mission of St. Francis Health.
