W. Bradley Kimbrough, III, MD, FACS, is a general surgeon at Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group General Surgery Ascension. After receiving his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans in 2006, he completed his residency in general surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center in 2011. He went on to become a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
Helping People Recover Faster
The greater precision and faster recovery time of robotic surgery always appealed to Dr. Kimbrough. “The robot provides better visualization and the degree of articulation is greater than the human body,” he says. “This allows the surgeon to suture within the abdomen and pelvis without creating large, traditional incisions, decreasing postoperative pain and infection rates.”
Surgeries like groin hernia and abdominal wall hernia repairs, as well as colon surgeries, can be performed through much smaller incisions, allowing patients to get back to their daily lives much sooner than with other types of surgery. “In general, people typically have less pain, leave the hospital earlier and return to work or normal activities sooner,” he says.
Taking Time to Relax
In addition to working in Gonzales, Dr. Kimbrough takes time to enjoy the area. “I really like the friendly culture and small-town feel,” he says. When he’s not performing surgery, Dr. Kimbrough is often outdoors, hunting, fishing, or skiing. He also enjoys running, cycling and cooking with family and friends.
