Tina Schaffer, M.Ed., SHRM-SCP, vice president, chief talent strategy and diversity officer, shares insights into our health system’s involvement with HAN, which began more than five years ago.

Power of the Network

HAN’s mission is clear: empower health systems to leverage their assets — hiring, purchasing, investing — to build inclusive local economies and create better community conditions for improved health.

HAN brings together institutions employing more than 2 million people, purchasing $100 billion annually and holding $200 billion in investment assets. Its anchor mission is a strategic approach to leveraging resources and influence to help improve communities. Network members sustainably invest in low-income neighborhoods and address health disparities, economic and racial inequities.

HAN members champion the anchor mission framework, collaboratively partnering with other anchor institutions and communities. The HAN anchor mission pillars are focused on hiring, purchasing, investing, policy and advocacy, community giving, real estate and building for impact, and volunteering.

The network’s vision? A universal adoption of this framework, fostering economically, socially and racially equitable outcomes in diverse locales. Our health system is proud to support HAN in accomplishing this vision.

Our health system’s journey with HAN exemplifies our commitment to driving equity and transformation in the communities we are privileged to serve. Through strategic collaboration, we continue to pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future.
