In every definition of the word, Khanh T. Ho, MD, faithfully represents altruism. Her concern for the well-being of others is shown through the care of her patients as well as the ways in which she supports her community.
Board Certified in rheumatology, Dr. Ho has a passion for science and problem-solving. She earned her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, completed her residency in internal medicine at LSU School of Medicine at the Earl K. Long hospital in Baton Rouge followed by a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
She returned to Baton Rouge knowing rheumatology was an under resourced specialty here and because Our Lady of the Lake physicians are among the best she ever worked with. “Louisiana is where I can make the most difference in patients’ lives,” she said.
Dr. Ho has faithfully served as a member of Our Lady of the Lake Foundation Board for nearly eight years. During those three terms, she has been an advocate of the impact philanthropy can make, leading the launch of our leadership annual giving society and affirming the collective impact of donors. She serves as a role model for other board members, making time to attend every meeting and event. Her legacy will be felt for years to come.
“You, as an individual, can make a difference,” Dr. Ho said. “The involvement of each of us leads to change.”
Reflecting on her service, Dr. Ho shares a pivotal moment that inspired her to join the board. Her best friend experienced a challenging pregnancy, and Dr. Ho helped her navigate the complexities of spina bifida. Witnessing the transformative power of specialized medical care her friend received in Texas led Dr. Ho to want to help bring that level of care here to Baton Rouge through the opening of Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Ho is also a mixed-media artist and fierce supporter of the arts in Baton Rouge. Her work with the Baton Rouge Gallery reflects her belief in the power of art to unite our community. Dr. Ho’s commitment to local initiatives strengthened after the pandemic.
“Giving generously is important,” Dr. Ho said. “Generosity, like art, is contagious.”
