DayDi Fernandez has been with FMOLHS for eight years. Her role as an Epic Application Systems Analyst on the inpatient orders team means that she supports all aspects of inpatient orders in the electronic medical record system, EPIC. Fernandez’s passion for biology and chemistry guided her to a career in the healthcare field.

“I learned about electronic medical records systems in college, and that helped guide me towards the role I am in now,” she says.

Making Cuban Traditions a Priority

Fernandez is originally from Ciego de Avila, Cuba. She has lived in the U.S. for 26 years.

One way Fernandez and her family celebrate their Cuban culture and heritage is having many family get-togethers and making it a priority to celebrate American holidays with Cuban food and traditions.  One of their favorite family traditions is celebrating Noche Buena (Christmas Eve).

Fernandez says, “My favorite cultural dish to eat during our celebrations are bistec de palomilla, arroz con frijoles with platanos maduros (beef steak marinated in garlic, lime juice, and onion with rice and beans and fried ripened sweet plantains).”
