Delores Newman celebrates 40 years with Our Lady of the Lake, dedicating her career to supporting patients, families and colleagues through the revenue service cashier team.

A Calling to Help

“I chose to work with the ministry because I wanted to help people,” Delores recalls. She stayed because the schedule worked well for her as a young mother, the benefits were excellent and she felt supported as part of a team.

Over the years, Delores has served in multiple roles within the business office and accounting department: from mail clerk to cashier, and now cashier supervisor.

Family in the Workplace

One of Delores’s most memorable moments came in 1996, when she was undergoing chemotherapy as a single parent. Her director and manager prepared food for her children for an entire year, prayed for her and supported her family.

That Christmas, the office party was held at her home, illustrating the true meaning of family at Our Lady of the Lake.

Making a Difference Every Day

Delores loves meeting new people and sharing in the ministry of healing.

“We all have a role to play in the healing process for patients and their families,” she says. “Even just listening can make a difference.”

Delores credits mentors like the late CEO Robert Davidge and FMOL Sisters, who cared deeply about every aspect of team members’ lives. She remembers when Mr. Davidge, not yet knowing her, joined her for lunch in the cafeteria.

“From that day forward, he checked in on me regularly until his retirement,” she recalls.

Delores’s dedication, compassion and long-standing commitment make her an invaluable member of the Our Lady of the Lake team.
