Although her childhood dream was to be an orthodontist, Franchesca “Frankie” Wheeler has found a career helping people as a patient access representative at The Medical Spa by St. Francis Medical Group.
Wheeler coordinates all appointments and front desk needs and has been in her role with our ministry since April 2021.
Celebrating Her Hispanic Heritage
Wheeler was born in the U.S. and her paternal grandparents are from Mexico. She enjoys spending time and sharing stories with relatives from Mexico, observing holidays that support her Mexican heritage, listening to and sharing Spanish music, visiting historic sites and learning about inspirational Latino people who drive positive growth.
Delicious Traditions
Wheeler says her favorite family tradition is to make fresh, homemade tortillas, something she did with her dad every weekend for breakfast growing up. Homemade tamales around the holidays are another top—and tasty—tradition.
Keeping Connections Through Food
Food is a way to connect, both to our own culture and to experience others’ cultures. Wheeler turns to desserts when she thinks of her favorite cultural dishes.
“Pan dulces, or ‘sweet breads,’ are some of my favorites,” she says. “Every time we would go visit any of our family we have in Texas, we would always stop at a Latino market and get to pick out our favorite breads to take home.”
Our DEI Commitment
Our ministry’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion supports culturally competent care education for our team members all year long, including during Hispanic Heritage Month each September 15 to October 15.
