At FMOL Health | St. Francis, healthcare isn’t just what we do. It’s who we are. Every day, our team members live out a mission rooted in faith, compassion and connection, taking bold, life-changing actions that make a real difference in people’s lives.
Sometimes the impact isn’t measured in monitors or tests. It’s measured in courage, in the choice to stay and in the willingness to be present.
Quick Thinking Saves a Life
Sandra Johnson, a 20-year veteran housekeeper in surgical services at St. Francis Medical Center, was performing her usual rounds when she noticed something alarming: a patient was choking. Without hesitation, she sprang into action, alerting the nursing team immediately. Her calm but urgent voice mobilized the team, and the patient’s life was saved.
“Ms. Sandra didn’t need a clinical title to make a clinical difference,” says Nina Johnson, environmental services director. “And the nurses didn’t need a long briefing. They trusted her instincts and presence.”
Sandra’s story is a powerful reminder that every team member has the ability to impact patient care. Collaboration isn’t just a principle. It’s action. When people work together, without silos, extraordinary things happen.
Presence Over Procedure
In the OB-ED, Kiersten Gaudin, RN, showed another side of that same commitment. A young woman, 38 weeks pregnant and alone, arrived anxious and frightened. When an unexpected C-section became necessary, Kiersten stayed by her side.
“I’ve got you. I’ll stay with you,” she told the patient, offering comfort and presence when it mattered most. Through surgery, Kiersten held the patient’s hand, comforted her and remained with the newborn, ensuring the first moments of motherhood were preserved.
The mother later reflected, “Kiersten was part of an answered prayer. I was blessed to have her as my nurse.”
These stories illustrate that healthcare is about more than procedures. It’s presence, advocacy and compassion, the human connection that turns routine care into life-changing experiences.
Connected Care in Action
FMOL Health is a network of hospitals and clinics across Louisiana and Mississippi, united by shared expertise, resources and a mission to deliver the best care possible.
Moments like Sandra’s and Kiersten’s show that system in action. Every team member can act confidently, supported by colleagues, protocols and experience that span the region. The network exists not for hierarchy, but to ensure care happens when it matters most, whether it’s a life-saving intervention or simply being present for a patient in need.
Healthcare as a Verb
At FMOL Health, healthcare is something you do, live and give. It’s courage in urgent moments. It’s patience when someone is afraid. It’s empathy that transforms everyday interactions into extraordinary care.
Rooted in faith and the healing mission of Jesus Christ, every team member, from housekeepers to nurses, physicians to technicians, embodies this calling. Every action is guided by enduring values: service with joy, authenticity, connection, inclusivity and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Everyday Moments, Lasting Impact
For patients and families in Northeast Louisiana, FMOL Health | St. Francis remains the trusted healthcare partner for generations. Yet it’s the small, everyday actions that define the experience: noticing a patient in distress, holding a hand through fear or preserving the first moments of a newborn’s life.
Sandra and Kiersten are examples of that mission in action, showing us that sometimes the most profound healing isn’t in the medicine, but in simply being there.
These moments don’t just save lives. They build trust, comfort and community. They show that St. Francis is more than a hospital. It’s a place where every person matters, and every moment of care is valued. This is how we healthcare.
