For over 30 years, Jill Breazeale, RN, has been a driving force for excellent patient care in her community.
From her early days as a nurse to her current role as quality manager at Our Lady of the Angels Health, Jill’s dedication to improving healthcare is unwavering. Through decades of change, Jill has remained focused on one goal: making a meaningful difference in the lives of those she serves.
a lifelong commitment to nursing
“I was born in this hospital, and my office is now next to where I was born,” Jill laughs.
Growing up in a family of healthcare workers, her path seemed destined. Her mother worked as a nurse at the same hospital, and now Jill’s son is following in her footsteps, having just started nursing school.
Jill has always served in Bogalusa. She began her career as a nurse in ER and med-surg units.
Over the years, Jill worked in various nursing roles, from the emergency department and psych care to case management. These experiences helped her grow professionally and shaped her approach to quality management.
“When I first started, I focused on providing immediate patient care, but now I see the bigger picture,” Jill says. “I understand how the rules and regulations we follow are all based on patient safety and continuity of care.”
inspired by those around her
Jill is quick to credit the people she works with for inspiring her every day.
“There’s just a genuine goodness in the people who work in healthcare,” she says. “They want to help others, show kindness, and improve things even in tough situations.”
Her admiration for her colleagues extends beyond their professional abilities. Many of her coworkers are also her closest friends, creating a sense of family within the hospital.
Even when balancing part-time work in other areas, Jill always felt supported by her team. She fondly recalls the encouragement from her first supervisor, Marilyn, who still works at the hospital.
“She mentored me and encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and grow, even if it meant leaving her department,” Jill says. “That kind of support is what makes this place special.”
valuing others
For Jill, the heart of healthcare lies in listening and making sure people feel valued — whether they are patients or team members.
“To be heard is valuable. Sometimes all a patient or colleague needs is someone to listen,” Jill says. “That’s what creates a good working relationship and leads to better care.”
She emphasizes the importance of giving patients the time to express their concerns and anxieties: “Sometimes it’s about listening to what they’re not saying.”
continuing to grow
Jill’s love for learning continues to fuel her passion for her work. She’s involved in professional organizations, participates in nursing associations and is always looking to achieve new certifications.
Her commitment to personal and professional growth mirrors the ever-evolving healthcare landscape, where she now helps guide best practices through quality management.
Looking back at her decades in healthcare, Jill remains dedicated.
“I’m inspired by the people I work with and the mission we carry out every day. Working here allows me to serve my community and make a difference in people’s lives. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
