Ryan McBride’s commitment to serving others is deeply rooted in his early life experiences and his professional journey.

As the physician practice manager at St. Dominic Family Medicine – Dogwood, Ryan has always been driven by a profound desire to care for those around him.

“As a child, I was always caring for the animals who needed a home,” Ryan says. “My parents weren’t sure if I would end up taking care of people or animals! Then, I helped to take care of my grandfather when he was ill. He had a long and difficult journey with diabetes.”

This early exposure to caregiving shaped Ryan’s commitment to healthcare, a passion that flourished into a fulfilling career.

Ryan has been part of the St. Dominic’s ministry for more than 18 years. Beginning as an MRI technologist, over the years Ryan has transitioned into roles that align closely with his commitment to both patient care and team support.

“My current role is to oversee the clinic and assist wherever needed,” Ryan explains. “I still get to use my radiology background, doing X-rays and managing the clinic’s operations. It’s the best of both worlds — being involved in patient care while leading a dedicated team.”

commitment to community and care

When asked what attracted him to St. Dominic’s, Ryan points to the hospital’s positive reputation and welcoming environment.

“When I first visited St. Dominic’s, I was struck by how clean and inviting it was,” he recalls. “It felt like home — like a small-town hospital where you’re part of a family.”

Ryan’s career progression reflects our health system’s commitment to supporting and developing our team members.

“I’ve always felt supported here,” he says. “I’ve had some great mentors who encouraged my growth, and now I get to help shape the clinic’s future. I’m very fortunate to be working for a great team on the clinic side and I have great bosses.”

making a difference, one patient at a time

Ryan’s commitment to patient care was exemplified in a recent experience.

“We had a patient who was lost and had a negative experience at another facility,” he recounts. “I drove him to the correct location and made sure the transition was smooth. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love working here.”

For Ryan, these acts of service are a key part of his role.

“I believe we are here to serve our community,” he says. “Helping people in need, especially when they’ve had a tough experience elsewhere, is incredibly rewarding.”

balancing work and life

Outside of work, Ryan’s priorities have shifted significantly since becoming a father.

“Having a family has changed my perspective,” he says. “Being present at my children’s activities and maintaining a work-life balance is crucial to me. It’s important for them to see my support and involvement.”

This balance is something Ryan values deeply, and it is something that St. Dominic’s has supported throughout his career.

Ryan’s professional values and family life are closely intertwined, demonstrating his commitment to both. When he experienced a stroke in December 2023 his daughters’ quick actions were instrumental in getting him the care he needed from St. Dominic’s Comprehensive Stroke Center.

The experience was a powerful reminder that the care healthcare providers extend to others professionally can also be reflected in the support and readiness of loved ones in times of need.

inspiration from colleagues and patients

Ryan draws inspiration from both his colleagues and the patients he serves.

“I work with some of the best people in the business,” Ryan says. “Surrounding yourself with talented and dedicated individuals helps you grow as a leader.”

He also finds motivation in the gratitude and stories of the patients he helps.

“Healthcare is about making a difference, one situation at a time,” Ryan explains. “The appreciation we receive from patients is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.”

looking ahead

For those considering a role with our health system, Ryan has some valuable advice.

“Talk to current employees, read testimonials and get a feel for the environment,” he suggests. “You’ll find that the positive experiences of others are a true reflection of what it’s like to work here.”

As Ryan continues to excel in his current role, he is also contemplating further career advancements.

“I’m interested in pursuing advanced practice,” he says. “St. Dominic’s offers great support for continuing education, and I’m exploring those opportunities.”
