’Tis the season to celebrate. As a new year begins, our attention naturally shifts toward a fresh start. Whether making resolutions that are big or small, choosing to take better care of yourself is a good goal to start the new year with.

Simone McMillon, APRN, FNP-C, nurse practitioner at The Medical Spa by St. Francis Medical Group, suggests taking better care of your skin as a great New Year resolution. Whether you’re getting back on track or beginning a new regimen, our skilled providers can make recommendations for every skin type. The Medical Spa offers regimen kits from Obagi and Skinceuticals, as well as individual products from each line.

Two Recommended Additions for Optimal Skincare

Consider adding a retinoid to your skincare regimen to diminish fine lines, wrinkles and the effects of photo-aging. Products containing Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) help brighten the skin and improve overall complexion while also encouraging the skin to rebound from sun damage and the effects of aging.

“If I were to recommend two products to incorporate into any skin care regimen, it would be some form of Vitamin C and retinoid,” McMillon says.

Three-Step Facial for Pampering and Skin Health

Regular facials can improve your skin and are a great way to pamper yourself. The Medical Spa offers the three-step OxyGeneo Facial. With options for detoxifying skin or dry, dull, aging or acne-prone skin, you can find the facial that’s right for you.

The first step is gentle exfoliation by way of CO2 bubbles to remove dead skin cells, open pores and smooth the skin surface. Next, oxygen replaces the CO2 bubbles to promote tissue oxygenation and increase cellular activity. The last step infuses nutrients and vitamins via a serum to nourish the skin and promote overall complexion improvement.

“This facial is great for upcoming events, but it can be added to regular routines as often as every month,” McMillon says.

Treatment Beyond the Face

Skin is our largest organ. For the skin beyond our faces, The Medical Spa offers NuEra Tight! Radiofrequency treatments to smooth and tighten stubborn areas. The technology warms the skin to precise temperatures, stimulating the production of your own collagen and elastin to treat skin laxity and even reduce cellulite. A series of four to eight weekly treatments yields optimal results.

“The best part about this treatment is that there is no downtime,” McMillon says. “It’s a relaxing procedure often reported to feel like a hot-stone massage.”

Self-care Matters

McMillon is a firm believer in self-care.

“You have to take care of yourself in order to take care of others,” she says. “The treatments offered at The Medical Spa inspire confidence and happiness, which supports general health and wellbeing.”

The best resolutions are those that are achievable and make us feel better. Skincare treatments certainly fit into that category. We wish you a happy and healthy start to 2022, whatever your resolutions may be!
