Sandra Auzenne is a dedicated registered technologist and registered mammographer at Our Lady of Lourdes Breast Center. Sandra has spent 37 years in the healthcare field, performing screening and diagnostic mammograms, as well as bone density exams to the patients she serves.

Finding Inspiration in Radiology

Sandra’s passion for healthcare was sparked during a career day event while attending the University of Southern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana Lafayette) High School Seniors Summer Program.

“Radiology was so fascinating. I was surprised at the many different areas involved,” Sandra recalls. This early exposure ignited a passion that led her to a long and rewarding career, where she continues to explore the many facets of radiology with enthusiasm and dedication.

A Family Foundation of Values

Throughout her career, Sandra has been deeply influenced by her mother and grandmother.

“Being respectful, always believing in yourself and being the best Christian you can be — this is how my mother still encourages our family,” she shares.

Her grandmother was a housekeeper and a nanny, and Sandra remembers her grandmother’s dedication and perseverance, turning hard work into a business that provided for others.

“Her hard work allowed her to do laundry for single parents, and eventually, she began to do laundry full time,” Sandra explains.

Honoring Heroes

Sandra is deeply inspired by the legacy of Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer. Despite facing personal struggles, including polio and brutal beatings in jail that left her disabled, Mrs. Hamer never gave up.

“Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer’s fight for voting rights and alleviating hunger for all races, despite her suffering, is a source of deep inspiration to me.” She says Mrs. Hamer’s resilience continues to motivate her to give her best in everything she does.

Work, Life Balance

Sandra has learned how to prioritize her health and well-being while facing the demands of her career with her personal life.

“I prioritize my health and dedication, doing my best to balance — sometimes challenging, but work must stay at work and home life separate,” Sandra reflects.

Embracing Technology and Professionalism

Sandra’s career has been filled with growth, and she has learned many lessons along the way. “Yes, my career has been very rewarding. The hard days have helped me grow from mistakes,” Sandra admits.

“We are all human,” she adds, recognizing that each challenge is an opportunity to improve. She is also proud of how much she has grown in her professionalism, particularly with the advancements in technology.

“Technology changes daily, but respect for yourself and others should always be set in stone,” Sandra says.
