For Karen, the first week of April was a journey filled with deep sorrow and unexpected comfort. As her beloved husband, Wesley, faced his final days, the care they received at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center brought light into one of life’s heaviest moments.

“I thank God they still have the light of Jesus in this world. That’s you!” Karen writes in a letter to the hospital team. After six days at Our Lady of Lourdes, her gratitude for every person who touched their lives, from the ER to the sixth floor oncology unit, overflows with praise and admiration.

A 5-Star Experience in the Most Difficult of Times

While no one wishes for a loved one to need hospital care, Karen describes their experience as something extraordinary.

“The treatment we’ve received from all your administration concerning all types of care was truly amazing,” she writes. “We felt like we were at a 5-star resort!”

From nurses and doctors to janitorial staff and aides who helped with daily routines like bath time, Karen says they were treated with professionalism, kindness and a deeply rooted Christian compassion. She lovingly refers to all the nurses as “diamonds.” Their care, she says, felt like it came from the heart.

Love, Loss and Lasting Impact

As Wesley transitioned to hospice care, Karen prepared to say goodbye to the love of her life. With a broken heart, she shares her thanks to the palliative care team and every person who showed them compassion.

“You are changing people’s lives with outstanding love and care for your patients,” she writes. “We love you so much!”
